Thunder Egg does Manchester Christmas Markets!

The renowned Manchester Christmas Markets are opening on the 14th November and Thunder Egg have two stalls: one on Market Street just facing Miss Selfridge, and one in the town hall as part of Pop-Up Afflecks this year!!

We're extremely excited to be a part of this event and to get giddy for Christmas doing so!

If you've never been to the markets, you absolutely must; the atmosphere is fantastic, there's an abundance of amazing gifts, lots of international food and drink and sparkling lights everywhere - and if you have been before you'll know how special it is!

We'll be selling all sorts of exciting trinkets, gifts & accessories - along with our incredible vintage Christmas jumpers! COSMIC: our pick of the trend!

We LOVE the huge cosmic trend this Autumn/Winter. Amazing prints, sparkly accessories & darker skies seem like the perfect combination to us! Here's our pick of some of the best cosmic outfits... We'll be wearing them to winter parties and layering them with sequins & snuggly coats for the daytime! Click pics to shop the look!

Eggs Do Halloween!

The Thunder Egg staff celebrated Halloween a whole 6 days early at the awesome Pop Bubble Shock by Pop Bubble Rock! PBR is an amazing club night in Manchester, playing pop punk, party hip hop and showering people in confetti. Perfect for a Halloween special!

HERE is a little tutorial of how we did our (super sparkly) sugar skull faces for the night!

Here's the blank face before you begin:

STEP 1:

Remove those eyebrows! We used foundation or concealer and powder to make our eyebrows as neutral as possible. We then added a base layer of white face paint, leaving some skin showing on the cheekbones and around the eye sockets.

STEP 2:

Blend a line of dark eye shadow or powder along just under the cheekbones (where your gaps in white are) and around the top of the head. We just used our fingers to blend.

STEP 3:

Draw a circle round the eye socket using coloured kohl pencil. Follow the eyebrow around the top and then continue this line round the socket. It doesn't have to be super neat because we're going to cover it up with GEMS! Fill this in with an eye shadow of your choosing - maybe one to match your outfit? If you like, now is a good time to add liquid eyeliner to your lids and glitter around the eyes. But do make sure the whole circle is coloured in!

STEP 4:

GEMS! Use eyelash glue (the clear stuff in a little bottle is best) to stick gems on the kohl pencil line - all sizes, shapes and colours are good! We even decorated other parts of our face, such as our foreheads, with them. Just make sure the kohl pencil circle is covered. Don't forget to stick some false eyelashes on after the gems if you like!

STEP 5:

Draw a shape similar to an upside down loveheart on your nose, covering the bottom part (where your nostrils are). We used kohl pencil or liquid eyeliner for this - liquid eyeliner is probably darkest.

STEP 6:

The final step! Lips. There are a couple of options here - you could paint white over your lips and smudge some lipstick into it and paint the black lines over that OR you could do normal lipstick and have the black lines just coming out of the sides.

And you're done! We accessorized with flowers, bows and sparkles. Here's a pic of our finished outfits!

Thunder Egg Autumn/Winter lookbook sneak peek!

Last week we shot our AW14 lookbook, which was lots of fun! Kate Trevor was the photographer and Elle Shoel modeled. It was very long day but a good one - scouting out brilliant Manchester locations, applying eye sparkles in the car mirror and avoiding shadows in the photographs!

A Barbie world: MOSCHINO SS15 at Milan Fashion Week

There's no one other than Jeremy Scott that would have sent models down the runway in giant blonde wigs and life size Barbie dresses - and no one that would have made it as FABULOUS as Jeremy Scott did either! As you can imagine, we're head over heels about the kitsch looks and have already started thinking how to recreate them in Thunder Egg. Here are our ideas...

Energy, sparkles & pattern: our LFW favourites!

London Fashion Week has now drawn to a close, leaving us feeling inspired and excited by fashion design! Our favourite shows had a really honest energy to them; an appreciation for exciting patterns, prints, sets and makeup that leaves the viewer feeling passionate too - even if the viewer isn't front row and is streaming it online or reading tweets about the show. Incidentally, we have a love for exciting prints, patterns, sets & makeup here at Thunder Egg too... Read on for more on that!




MEADHAM KIRCHHOFF Featuring models cast from an open call ("Typical model looks not required"), the Meadham Kirchhoff show was delightfully diverse. The clothes and set were absolutely wild - it was exciting to say the least! We loved the bright colours and bizarre designs. They reminded us endlessly of our current Lazy Oaf stock - an oversized t-shirt emblazoned with dogs, pizza & dollar bills and a 3D pom pom jumper feel pretty MK to us!

The dramatic Vivienne Westwood-esque layered dresses were pretty special too. We'll be layering one of our many swishy midi skirts with some chiffon shirts and clashing prints. Come in store to check some out!



ASHLEY WILLIAMS We adored Ashley Williams' fun, quirky Asian style prints (with added glitter of course!). Her graphic patterns are always exciting and fresh - to lots of people she really represents London's emerging designers. For this collection she took inspiration from Western society's influence on 1960's Asia's aesthetic - it is oriental designs with an unmistakable edge. Check out our Lucky Cat dress by Run & Fly, which really reflects that same vibe.

We'd combine this with sparkly jewellery and a patent bag (maybe one of our new LYDC ones!) for an edgy Ashley Williams look. Pointy shoes are a must. We've got a Neon Rose eye print two piece as well that really captures the graphic designs we saw in this show - we're obsessed!



Peter Pilotto Known for their hugely exciting prints, Peter Pilotto was always going to be a favourite in our eyes - look at how vibrant it is! The shapes feel quite classic, but the colours and patterns are where these designs come into their own - especially worn with the matching shoes. There's the ever-present shimmer in this show too. We like to use our makeup and accessories do the glittering and let the vivid patterns have the limelight! There are so many amazing prints at Thunder Egg right now to keep your Peter Pilotto excitement fizzling: a The Whitepepper fried egg skirt & crop top, a Compañia Fantastica bright lightning bolt dress, loads of Glamorous paisley patterns, quirky Trollied Dolly dresses and some super bright Cutie patterns. We'd wear all of it with glitter eyeliner and a holographic LYDC bag to get the catwalk sparkle!

There's a little glimpse into our LFW! We just can't resist fun patterns, layers and a little sparkle. Most of all we love fashion that feels exciting and fun. What have been your favourites this season, and how will you be interpreting the catwalk looks?

MERMAID GIRLS: we loved Rodarte SS15 at NYFW

Turquoise neon lights piled high like rubble, iridescent twinkles and shimmering layers - Rodarte SS15 at New York Fashion Week was the internet's (and our!) mermaid dreams come to life. We adored the contrasts in the fabric textures and the sleek hair the models wore with it, but not as much as we loved the sequins shining smooth like fish scales, making us think excitedly about seascapes and sparkles... and more to the point, what clothes we can wear to reflect the Ariel vibe at Rodarte! Read on for some catwalk-mermaid style purchases...
